Percussion & Euphonium album released

Praxis-detail.jpeg

After a slight delay, the album of percussion and euphonium music recorded back in June was released just in time for PASIC! Nathan Daughtrey will be selling copies at the C. Alan booth if you stop by and ask him real nicely. The CD can also be purchased directly from the label Potenza Music or the Just for Brass website.

Apart from the ensemble pieces we recorded are three duets with Nathan and Brian Meixner. Nathan's composition Spitfire is a duet for marimba/vibraphone and euphonium, and he and Brian's performance is outstanding. The interplay between the instruments makes it wonderfully exciting. David Cutler's El Alacrán for cajon/maracas and euphonium is definitely unique. Note for anyone who might be interested, these are joropo style maracas. Samuel Adler's Four Dialogues is the work that inspired Brian to pursue this project. Gordon Stout and Brian Bowman first recorded the work in 1978 on the album "The First Carnegie Hall Euphonium Recital." Nathan and Brian's performance of the work here is superb.

Again, it was a wonderful group of people putting this album together, and I hope others have as much fun listening as I did working on it.
