Godspell

My first show with WaterTower Theatre. This cast was phenomenal and made up of lots of friends and a couple people I knew but hadn’t worked with. The band was great but unfortunately they had me completely separated from them. It just felt really weird for a rock show. They were all on the second level of the theater overlooking the stage, and I was offstage behind curtains.

I had never actually seen or played Godspell previously. Especially fun to play was “Alas for You”, and I enjoyed the vaudevillian “All for the Best.” All the joke sound effect cues during the show’s dialogue were cut.

The rehearsal process for this show was highly condensed. It was originally a time slot slated for a workshop, but the theater went through some changes in leadership and subsequently programming, shortly beforehand. So they replaced it with Godspell thinking it would be easy to throw together. Anyway, this led to two weeks of cast rehearsal followed by 3 days of tech with the band and we were open. That first show was a bit rough yet but pulled together after that.
