Aida

I have played the show a couple times. The biggest difference between the setups was being more faithful to the original electronics setup when I did it in 2023.

You can see the sample pad placement was changed from rehearsal (to the left of the hat) to shows (moved above the snare between hat and crash). I made the change based on the advice of the original drummer on Broadway, Gary Seligson. The pad is such an integral part of the book, having it placed in a position of greater access and power while playing made a huge difference. I used a Yamaha DTX Multi12 and a snare pad to handle the samples. A second pad controlled page turns (this was before I started using a bluetooth pedal).

Lyric Stage 2023

I spent a lot of time (a LOT) making the electronics for this production as close to the original as possible. That meant three toms pads, piezo triggers on the acoustic, two foot pedals, and the snare pad. A Roland TD27 brain controlled the piezo triggers and snare pad. The foot pedals and tom pads went to a Roland SPD-SX Pro unit, which also handled all the sounds originally intended for the Octopad.
